There are at least two schools of thought out there on leadership, one that says it's better to be the kingmaker than the king, the other that leadership is everyone's job and that means you.
In his latest tome, Tribes, Seth Godin suggests that the internet is making it possible for everyone to lead a constituency of interest (he reckons it takes 1,000 people to make a tribe). In Ireland, I suspect it takes less.
He's all for heretics and 'positive deviance'.
Consider this: "When the Los Angeles Philharmonic went looking for a new conductor, they had their pick of perhaps a thousand qualified individuals. They hired Gustavo Dudamel (pictured). He's a 26-year-old sensation from Venezuela whose résumé can't compare to those of his elder peers. He doesn't have the proven abilities of doing yesterday's hard work. The LA Philharmonic realised, though, that they could always find someone to get that work done. What they needed was a new leader to bring the organisation to a new audience in a new way. Stop for a second and consider the implications of this decision. From a thousand qualified conductors (who understood the status quo), the Philharmonic chose a newbie who wanted to challenge it."

Now wouldn't that be the most radical idea to hit Ireland since the challenge of the Hunger Strike?
Imagine, if we could toss out all the political status quo Shysters in Dublin and Belfast?
Wolfe Tone and company would jump for joy in their graves!
Some of the rest of us would too.
"What they needed was a new leader to bring the organisation to a new audience in a new way."
I see the Financial Times quite accurately descibed Ireland as a "banana republic."
And the now the corrupt Dublin politicans are yelling their outrage at the truth.
So where does that leave Northern Ireland which is trying to emulate Ireland?
A new leader is needed to restore honor, truth and courage.
Perhaps Ripoff Ireland needs to be renamed or baptised Shyster Ireland given the lastest banking scandals and the long history of the big boys stealing everything they can from the little folks.
Nollaig shona dhuit!
